Strip of bobbin lace with insect on either side of an octagonal cartouche

Strip of natural-coloured Brussels bobbin lace. The strip is curved in shape. The pattern consists in the middle of an octagonal cartouche with on both sides a flying insect and then a long flower branch, whereby the left branch carries different flowers than the branch on the right side of the cartouche. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a drochel ground. The work is largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges, some cutouts and with net stitch fillings. Various motifs have bobbin-relief contours. Various decorative grounds have been applied, including a snowflake ground and picoted plaited grounds. The upper side is finished with a separately bobbin-made strip. The scalloped underside is finished with picots.
