Strip of bobbin lace with oval cartouche in the middle and insect above hollow scalloped cartouches

Strip of natural-coloured Brussels bobbin lace. The strip is curved in shape. The symmetrical pattern consists in the middle of an oval cartouche with on both sides successively a hanging flower branch with a carnation and rosette flowers, a hollow scalloped cartouche and a hanging flower branch with a rosette flower with eight pointed petals. Above the scalloped cartouches flies an insect. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a drochel ground. The work is largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges, some cutouts and with net stitch fillings. Most motifs have bobbin-relief contours. Various decorative grounds have been applied, including snowflake grounds and picoted plaited grounds. The upper side is finished straight. The scalloped underside is finished with picots. The short sides are finished with a hem.
