Tablecloth with the history of John the Baptist

Linen damask tablecloth with the history of John the Baptist. Central field: the symmetric pattern, repeated three times horizontally, shows from bottom to top five scenes: 1 John preaches in the wilderness. John, with a hair garment and barefoot, stands with outstretched arms in the midst of a crowd in a hilly landscape. One of them wears a doublet and balloon breeches, another a flat bonnet. Caption: MATTH.III.CAP. 2 Baptism of Christ in the Jordan. In the center the dove in rays above a palm tree, which grows on an island in the water, in which Christ stands with bowed head, crossed arms and loincloth. The kneeling John on the shore, with cross-staff, sprinkles the bared head. Above him a leafy tree in which: MARCI.I.CA. 3 Beheading in the prison. In front of a receding wall with grated windows stands the executioner, before whose feet the beheaded body of John lies forward, he places the head on the platter which Salomé carries.
