Linen damask tablecloth with scenes from the War of the Spanish Succession. The symmetrically doubled pattern, repeated three times horizontally, depicts four scenes: 1 Four fortresses bombarded by cannons: TOURNAY, BERGHE, MEENEN, and LILLE. 2 A turned-away galloping rider with a marshal's baton, a long wig, a plumed hat, and the inscription: DUX MARLBOROUG; a trophy in the center, surrounded by the names BRUSEL, LOVEN, ANVERS, GAND, COURTRY and BRUGES. 3 On a crowned double eagle is the coat of arms of Marlborough, surrounded by a round band: quarterly, 1 and 4 a climbing lion, 2 fesswise, 3 a chief and a fess with three crosses (swords?) below. A heart shield with a fess charged with three shells (?). 4 Scene 1 is repeated. Horizontal borders: a symmetric border divided by a straight line of armor trophies; outside this: a block border.
