About this work

Sits blanket. In the center of the four sides, on a white ground, a large floral palmette in red—two pointed oval and two fan-shaped—on a leaf rosette of blue and red volute scroll, of which the red partly forms the border and partly frames the palmette. In the corners, a smaller palmette in the form of a fleur-de-lis placed diagonally, from which hangs a coat of arms by means of a tied blue ribbon, displaying on a white field a flower vase with fine spiral scrolls, to which red carnations and pomegranates are attached. The central palmettes consist of petals arranged in scales and concentric arcs, in carmine and madder lake with very fine veining. The top is formed either by a pumpkin on a leaf rosette or by a fan-shaped leaf rosette. In the center, fine aigrettes, alternating blue and red-yellow. A very narrow border frames the whole. Embroidered, quilted, and lined with red cotton.
