About this work

Ivory and mother-of-pearl snuffbox, set in a dark brown frame with gilded inlay. The snuffbox depicts a three-story house crowned by a balustrade with shield-bearing putti, situated on a narrow canal with a bridge. The letters AVM are inscribed in the shield. Four swans swim in the water. On the left and right, gardens enclosed by hedges with garden pavilions and figures seated on garden benches. The window panes and water are made of mother-of-pearl; the background is of blue silk.
