About this work

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Valenciennes lace. Under a broad band with large round knots the repeating pattern consists of twigs with two large heart-shaped leaves and one small heart-shaped leaf, in two variations. A pattern of crosses and square knots is found alternately under and above the twigs and possibly represents a snowball (flower). Along the semicircular scallops runs a double border of a band and loose round knots. The motifs are connected by a fine lattice ground, a net ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with thicker, shiny contour threads. In the center of the large leaves one type of decorative ground has been applied. The square knots in the snowball are made in buttonhole stitch. The upper edge of the strip is finished straight. The scallops along the lower edge are finished with picots.
