About this work

Linen damask napkin with the history of Abraham. Central field: the symmetrical pattern shows three scenes from bottom to top. 1 Flying angel grasping the sword. 2 God's word in a cloud halo. Inscriptions: ABRAHAM. Below, the kneeling Abraham and ADSUM DNE. 3 Prophecy to Abraham. Abraham sitting on a stool on the outside. Before him stands an angel in long robes with the text GENESIS 18 between the wings, which are still spread out to the side of the head; the hands of both are raised in gestures. Behind Abraham, the head and an arm of Sarah are visible. Standing and lying borders: doubled mirror-image vine with small birds. Corners: rosettes.
