Tablecloth with Amsterdam and the Sea Trade

Tablecloth of linen damask with Amsterdam and the Sea Trade. Central field: On an empty field stands crosswise a single scene: under the coat of arms of Amsterdam with a text band on which Amsterdam stands, a city view from above. It is an irregular oval, bounded by hills, two trees and sixteen church spires. The whole is cut through by a wall with palisade and bridge arches, behind which, without any perspective, a dense mass of houses with among others stepped and list gables and in the back numerous churches, among others the Wester Tower with crown, and the Lutheran church. In front of the palisade a water, in simple wave lines, on which many sailing ships, some moored at harbor heads; their flags not differentiated, the foremost ships larger, but never crossing the others. Borders: Diagonally placed a wooden sailing ship with a walking lion on the stern and on a flag; furthermore six figures, two of which climbing in the rigging.
