Strip of bobbin lace with linked round peonies

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Flemish lace. The repeating and symmetrical pattern consists of a series of more or less round and stylized peonies. At each connecting point of the successive flowers stand two cup flowers, each on a short thick stem and mirrored relative to the longitudinal axis. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and some fine cutouts. The motifs are placed close together and are connected by short braids, which seem to form the beginning of a lattice ground. The top and bottom of the strip are finished straight and along both sides a strip of linen is attached with a narrow strip of work with gathered threads. The lace was probably made in the Southern Netherlands, the seam probably in the Northern Netherlands.
