Strip of bobbin lace with rocailles and pineapples

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Old Brabantine lace. For a rochet or superplie. The pattern features two alternating symmetrical compositions, triangular in shape, with motifs connected by an irregular plaited ground with picots. One composition consists of diagonally standing rocailles forming two lines of a triangle containing four crosses, or four-pointed stars, and round shapes or berries. In the other composition a large pineapple or pomegranate fills the triangle, further filled by a round motif and flowers and leaves. The motifs are worked in linen stitch and mesh stitch, with very sparingly occurring relief contour lines. The upper edge is finished with a bobbin-edged border surmounted by a woven border. The shell border on the underside derives from the pattern. The ends are sewn together.
