Strip of Bobbin Lace with Shell Border of Hanging Roses under a Strew Pattern of Openwork Circles

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. Below a scattered pattern of openwork circles, the repeating pattern along the lower edge of the strip consists of a sequence of single hanging roses on a curved stem with three leaves. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a Mechelen ground. The motifs are worked in linen stitch with cutouts and thicker, shiny contour threads. In the flower centers a decorative ground is applied with a coarser mesh ground, decorated with mosses made in shape stitch. The upper edge of the strip is finished with a separately bobbin-edged band. The shell edge along the lower edge derives from the pattern and is finished with picots. One short side is finished in a continuous line with rounded corners from the lower edge with picots.
