About this work
Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: Argentan lace. The repeating pattern consists among others of symmetrically decorated ovals. The motifs are connected to each other by or filled with many different types of ornamental grounds, including a diamond ground with the partridge eyes characteristic of Argentella lace in the ovals. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches with decorative cutouts. The upper side is edged with a bobbin lace border. Shell border at the underside, originating from the pattern.
