Band of needle lace with ovals on tops and in valleys of wavy leafy branch

Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Argentan lace. The strip was part of an engagante. The largely repeating pattern consists of a regularly wavy branch, with three ovals at the highest and lowest point of each wave. From the top edge of the strip hangs a small flower branch in each wave valley. The flowers vary. The motifs are composed of festoon stitches with cutouts as decoration and provided with relief contours. The wavy branch has a ladder pattern. The motifs are connected by a hexagonal ground of festooned meshes, an Argentan ground. In the ovals a finer mesh ground and a grid with wheel picots are used as decorative grounds. The flat scalloped edge is formed by a flower garland, which forms pointed oval cartouches at regular intervals containing different decorative grounds. The top edge of the strip is finished straight with a knotted band.
