Strip of Bobbin Lace with Arches of Stems with a Large Round Flower

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating symmetrical pattern consists of an arch formed by two hanging flower stems, with halfway a large round flower with openwork flower heart and a whimsically lobed edge. Under the arch lies along the lower side of the strip an oval cartouche, flanked by pointed leaves and crowned by a V-shaped leaf with a loose flower above it. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a Mechelen ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with few cut-outs and with shiny and thicker contour threads. In the cartouches and flower hearts rhombic decorative grounds have been applied. Top and bottom side of the strip are finished straight, where the lower side is provided with picots.
