Strip of Bobbin Lace with a Female Bust and Dolphin

Strip of natural-coloured Brussels bobbin lace. The pattern consists of many small motifs, where the female bust, slightly to the right of the middle, and the water-spouting dolphin, on the left side of the strip, stand out most. Along the lower side many C-shaped motifs are linked to form a border with shells. The motifs are connected by a plait ground, with picoted plaits. The motifs are made in linen stitch with cut-outs, partly with openwork edges and partly with bobbin-relief contours. Various decorative grounds have been applied in the motifs, including a decorative ground with squares made in block stitch. The upper side is finished straight. The shells along the lower side are finished with picots.
