About this work
Prayer rug, so-called KOLOMMEN-BIDKLEED MET TWEE DWARSPANELEN, KULA. Central field: on a cornflower blue mihrab with flat stepped gable tops stand two light blue, swaying columns on either side of a large, branched flower stem hanging from the top on a "tree of life". On light blue spandrels stand red hollyhocks. Narrow lower and upper cross panels are in light and cornflower blue with flowers. Borders: multiple. The widest is grey with flowers that seem to stand in ranks and are colored red, cornflower blue, ochre-yellow and black per square. Inner and outer borders show an S-scroll decoration.
