Shawl of appliqué lace with heart-shaped motif at the ends

Shawl of natural-coloured appliqué lace, Carrickmacross lace. Elongated, rectangular shape. On a tulle ground, the motifs are partly applied in batiste and surrounded by cords and partly stuffed with mesh decorative stitches. At the ends stands a symmetrical motif in the shape of a heart, made with a scroll vine and flower garlands. The ends have three pointed shells of rosettes and a large leaf palmette and garlands. The border along the long sides consists of a series of reserves, branches with rosette flowers, palmette flowers and bell flowers. Halfway along the long sides is a motif in the shape of a basket hanging on two garlands with rosette flowers, with a bow at the top. On the central field stand some curved branches with rosette flowers, various loose rosette flowers and a sprinkling pattern of sprigs.
