Door knocker with inscription HENRICK TER HORST ME FECIT DAVENTRIAE ANNO 1631

The cast round mortar widens towards the top, has a high projecting and profiled rim and a profiled foot, which is placed higher than the bottom of the object. On the rim in Latin capitals the inscription HENRICK TER HORST ME FECIT DAVENTRIAE ANNO 1631 with interpuncts consisting of a rhombus (seven times) and three small rhombuses. The wall is divided in two above the middle by a sharply profiled rib. The upper frieze is built up of trefoil arches, to which bunches of grapes and vine leaves hang alternately. The lower frieze shows bunches of grapes surrounded by a cartouche, flanked by two naked female figures with, among other things, a branch in their hand. The cartouche runs out in stylized scrolling work of two volutes, in which, among other things, bunches of grapes are included. The entire motif is repeated less than two times. At the bottom the frieze is closed by a stylized twisted pearl and cord border.
