About this work
Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of a horizontal flower branch with various flowers. Each successive branch lies directly above an elongated leaf in a shell, in a slightly curved shell. Along the shell edge runs a series of rosette flowers. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a Mechelen ground. The motifs are worked in linen stitch with thicker and shiny contour threads. In the openwork flower hearts are blocks worked in shape stitch. The top edge of the strip is finished straight. The shell edge is finished with picots. The short ends are finished with a hem.
