Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The pattern along the upper half of the strip consists of a somewhat irregular zigzagging loose vine, with leaves on both sides. The zigzag valleys are alternately crossed by a loose flower basket with a rosette flower between leaves or by a large leaf that springs from the pattern that fills the lower half of the strip. This pattern consists of two different, lying s-scrolls with incised leaves, feather leaves and clusters of three rosette flowers. The s-scrolls are linked to each other and alternate with each other. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a Mechelen ground. The solid work is largely made in linen stitch and very limited in net stitch, with thicker and shiny contour threads. Decorative grounds are applied among others in and around the s-scrolls, including a snowflake ground and a ground decorated with mosses made in formwork.
