The object consists of three parts: the base, the wall, and the lid. They have engraved decoration and imagery. The lid and base bulge towards the center at the edges and are otherwise flat. They are closed by smooth vertical rims that enclose the wall of the box. The convex parts of the lid and base have engraved continuous vine ornament. On the lid, a scene of a man, a woman holding a glass, and a clergyman, with the inscription '6 Things that gladden my heart: short preaching and long meals.' On the base, a depiction of a couple and a man with the inscription 'Young meat, fresh fish, a pretty May, and wine on the table.' The wall has engraved vine ornament and on the front the inscription 'The throat costs a lot.'
