Strip of lace with V-shaped motif above folded shell

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: Burano lace. The symmetrical pattern consists of a V-shaped motif above an open shell lying along the underside of the strip. The V is formed by a row of obliquely stacked leaves, with a larger drop-shaped and curling leaf at the top of each leg. From this leaf, a stem with three rosette flowers curves downwards. The stem ends with a leaf lying along the underside of the strip, the tip of which touches the shell. Hanging in the V-shaped field at the top is an asymmetrical motif with a rosette flower between three more or less oval flowers or forms. The motifs are connected by a mesh ground, a Burano ground. Various decorative grounds are used. Among others between rosette flowers and in the decorative bands along the underside of the strip. The upper side of the strip is finished straight. The shallow shell border along the underside of the strip results from the pattern.
