Strip of bobbin lace with pointed ovals and stylised figures

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Lille lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists along the lower edge of the strip of linked pointed ovals. From each oval springs a round flower between two leaves, like a stylised man standing with two arms raised. Between the successive heads is always one square cushion. In the openwork ovals are always two cushions. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a tulle ground. The sparse filling is made in loose linen stitch. The thicker and shiny contour threads predominate. The cushions are made in shaped stitch. The upper edge of the strip is finished straight and sewn on to a strip of machine-made tulle. The slightly scalloped lower edge is finished with picots.
