Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: Men's Alençon. Pattern of a fine winding vine with small leaves on a fine hexagonal ground with wrapped meshes. The pattern at the underside of the strip consists of two wavy lines between which, among other things, leaf twigs and circles with a wheel picot in the centre. Filling of buttonhole stitches in (flower) leaves and except for the wheel picots in the circles, no filler grounds. Nuance differences are made by applying an even finer hexagonal ground between the wavy lines along the underside and in some leaves on the vine. The meshes of this fine ground are not wrapped but twisted. Buttonholed contour lines. The underside is finished with a nearly straight edge with very fine picots. The upper side is edged with a border of bobbin lace.
