About this work

Strip of natural-colored Brussels appliqué lace: bobbin lace applied on machine-made tulle. Scatter pattern with rosettes on a fine hexagonal mesh ground. Repetitive motif with a rosette flower under which hangs a large feather-shaped leaf and a branch with small leaves. At the bottom of the leaf a lying C-scroll to which five lobes hang. Motifs in linen stitch with thicker contour threads. Decorative stitches (needle lace stitches) in, among others, the C-scroll. The scalloped lower edge results from the pattern with the leaf and the lobes. The upper side is edged with a border of bobbin lace.
