Collar of bobbin lace with three butterflies

Collar of natural-colored bobbin lace. Trapezium-shaped model. Symmetrical pattern with a butterfly in the central field, which is flanked on two sides by a larger butterfly. The contours of the motifs are narrow ribbons bobbin-made in linen stitch with a thick relief thread in the middle, as is also seen in Russian ribbon lace. The motifs are connected to each other by braids that form four-pointed stars. Decorations in the butterfly wings are made with leaves in shape stitch and with a kind of coarse snowflakes or spiders. The collar was made by Alida Maria van Schaik, pupil of a bobbin lace course at the Rijkschool voor Kunstnijverheid in Amsterdam.
