About this work
Parasol with cover of needle lace, 'point de gaze de Bruxelles', on an ivory-coloured silk under-cover. The lace features a pattern of medallions and heart-shaped cartouches between fields of daisies and other flowers. The cover is lined with lavender-coloured pongee silk. Eight ribs of whalebone. Shaft of ivory, carved with chains. Halfway up a copper slide, which can be pushed up, allowing the shaft to bend. At the top a knob of ivory, in the form of two links, to which a long ivory-coloured tassel.
