About this work

Dress of silk, brocaded and laced with silver and gold thread, in satin weave, liseré, and trimmed with woven band with gold thread. Design: largely in gold and silver thread, partly in yellow, aubergine, pink and red silk woven ornament of fruits and flowers. The fruits with a filling of cutwork, connected by pointed sling shapes and leaves on a salmon-pink ground with a design of flowers and leafy vines (liseré). Lining in blue Gros de Tours (?) with an interwoven monochrome design of vegetative forms. The fabric consists of four sewn strips and is made into a dress. On label: French and Co. inc. 9406; Price.... On the back of the fabric, written: 9406. Paper pinned with the letters AH. Condition: fair.
