Carpet of silk: Gros de Tours

Garment of cut and brocaded silk with a liseré effect, so-called Gros de Tours, trimmed with silk ribbon, cut with gold thread. Design: symmetrically built pattern with a table with a bowl of fruit in two shades of blue, pink/red, pink, red, light brown, and green (brocaded and cut) in the axis, surrounded by a large-scale floral arrangement with leaves in the same colors, on an aubergine/pink ground with an interwoven design of irregular hexagons. The fabric, consisting of countless small fragments carefully sewn together, has been made into a garment. Stamped on the reverse: 34876. Small label with "French and Co inc. 34876 Price 575.00." Condition: good, apart from "patchwork." Note: not inventoried in 1998.
