About this work

Tapering pedestal curving upwards, decorated on the sides with armorial trophies, a cartouche with a naval battle on the front below, and a lambrequin hanging below the 'capital' of the socle, which is decorated with acanthus leaves. On the corners of the socle, hanging clusters of oak leaves and acorns; the whole stands on upward-curving acanthus leaves as feet.
