About this work

This Baroque masterpiece was made for Count Leopold Joseph von Lamberg, the Austrian ambassador in Rome from 1700 to 1705. The exuberantly carved base is enriched with numerous gilt-bronze mounts, a fairly unique feature for Roman furniture of this period. The top is made of re-used marble from Roman antiquity.
