About this work
The oval box has a hinged lid with an overhanging rim. The rim is built up from bottom to top from a straight and a hollow section, separated by smooth profiles. The pattern is repeated at the bottom edge of the box in a simpler form. The side is decorated with playing children. The top of the lid shows in a recessed field Venus and Mars in a landscape. The goddess lies in a heavenly bed and thus seduces the god of war.
