About this work
The oval box has a hinged lid with an overhanging rim. The rim is built up from bottom to top from a straight and a hollow section, separated by smooth profiles. The pattern is repeated at the bottom edge of the box in a simpler form. The side is decorated with playing children holding a garland. The top of the lid shows in a recessed field Venus and Adonis in a landscape. The goddess tries to prevent Adonis from hunting, which will ultimately prove fatal for him.
