About this work

Collar of natural-colored needle lace: Venetian relief lace. Curved strip-shaped model. The pattern consists in the middle of a more or less symmetrical composition with a flower flanked by C-scrolls. The remaining pattern, with mainly flowers, some leaves and stems, is not symmetrical. The motifs are made with festoon stitch and are provided with relief contours and thick cords decorated with picots. The upper side is finished with a drawn thread band. The collar is finished along the short sides and underside with an arch edge. It is possibly a 19th-century imitation of a late 17th-century fragment.
