About this work

Modesty with a strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Binche lace. A rectangular piece of natural-coloured linen (new), partially with an open edge decoration, is edged with a strip of bobbin lace. On a ringed snowflake ground stands a long, running S-scroll with three flowers, crossed by an S-shaped and feathered leaf. The motifs are executed in linen stitch and net stitch with openwork edges. As a decorative ground, in one of the flowers very sparingly another snowflake ground is applied. The top side of the strip is finished straight. The scallop edge along the bottom is finished with picots. The short sides are finished with a hem. The linen is finished with a hem on three sides. One short side concerns the selvedge of the textile; on this side perhaps also a hem was attached, as it runs slightly longer through the lace strip.
