Shawl of Bobbin Lace with Kashmir Feather Motifs

Scarf of black bobbin lace: Chantilly lace. On a coarse and open lattice ground stands a two-sided symmetrical design. At each end, a pair of feather- or palm motifs like those of Kashmir shawls, which with their top volutes cut through a medallion of a pair of facing letters L. These display a mesh ground with a tendril and blossoms, accentuating the outlines. Pairs of winding twigs, ending in leaf volutes, grow towards the middle, cross each other frequently, and form a heart-shaped medallion. The edges are kept very straight by weak shells, within which tendrils, S-medallions, and flowers with a mesh ground are placed.
