Jug with men beneath arches

Stoneware jug on a high foot with a cylindrical body, rounded shoulder, and wide neck. The C-shaped handle is attached to the neck and shoulder. Profiles on the neck, belly, and foot. Covered with a brown engobe. On the belly, in relief, a stamped and applied band of men in 16th-century attire (soldiers) full-length under arches. The lower part of the belly slopes obliquely to the foot and is divided into compartments by incised lines. The shoulder features incised compartments containing a stamped floral scroll. The neck has, in relief, a stamped and applied band with masks in medallions between leafy scrolls. A tin mount with lid attached to the handle. Marked on the inside with a crowned flower and the mark 'IE'. Raeren.
