Collar of needle lace and bobbin lace with floral scrolls and nine pointed shells

Collar consisting of a strip of natural-coloured Venetian needle lace "gros point", with edges of natural-coloured old Flemish bobbin lace. Lightly curved strip model. The inner strip of needle lace has a pattern of volute vines and composite flowers. The motifs are provided with contour threads and partially with thick cords, decorated with picots. Various decorative stitches have been used, mainly in the flower hearts. Along the underside and continuing in the short sides a strip of bobbin lace has been set, with a bobbin-made insert. The bobbin lace consists entirely of braids (passementerie work), which form a geometric pattern of a total of nine-pointed scallops. The bobbin-made band along the top side of the collar is made of always four rectangles in linen stitch, with in between an octagonal motif with cutouts, connected to each other with braids. The scalloped edge of bobbin lace is presumably older than the needle lace and was manufactured in the Southern Netherlands.
