About this work
Cap or calèche of quilted black taffeta. Around the face, a 1 cm wide ribbon is attached as a tunnel for a thin, metal (?) baleen. At the bottom of the cap, a tunnel through which a black satin ribbon can be drawn to fasten under the chin. Attached to this is a loose gathered strip that falls to the shoulders. On the front of the cap, a wide turned-back silk brim. Halfway up the cap, a tunnel from which the baleen is missing. The cap is closed at the back by gathering from one central point in the middle. The material of the filling is as yet unknown.
