About this work

Bowl of blue-painted faience. The bowl is inverted bell-shaped and has a foot ring. Three compartments are painted on the bowl separated by a striped decoration. In one compartment a man (Chinese) is painted lying on hands and knees, in one compartment a man (Chinese) is painted holding a flag, and in the other compartment a man (Chinese) is painted holding an elongated object. The bowl is dated (1581) on the inside bottom.
