Strip or collar of needle lace with symmetrical pattern of flowers and curling feathered leaves

Strip or collar of natural-colored needle lace: Venetian relief lace. Symmetrical and rich pattern with flowers and curling feathered leaves. In the center of the strip is a candelabra motif from which a vine descends on both sides and then curls in a large arch and ends in an exotic flower with a four-lobed flower heart. Similar flowers recur next to the curling and volute-forming feathered leaves in the rest of the pattern. The motifs are made with festoon stitches where openwork and many types of decorative stitches provide nuances. The motifs are provided with relief contours. In the flower hearts and around the outside of some larger leaves, cords decorated with picots are used for extra relief. The motifs are connected by a picoted bar ground. The top and bottom sides of the strip are finished straight, where the bottom side is provided with picots. The short sides are finished straight and extended with a narrow strip of needle lace sewn at right angles to the long strip.
