Beaded purse with a gold handle and hook

The cast purse handle consists of two equal, hinged together, arched halves with a scalloped contour. A wide, smooth upper rim is attached at right angles to one of these two halves. Each handle half shows on a rough ground in the center a sitting young Mercury with his winged helmet and caduceus, on the left corner a putto with a mirror (Prudence) and on the right corner a putto with a staff and a mask (the art of theater). The ends are shaped as dolphins. The edges are decorated with C-volutes from which floral garlands hang. Both handle halves are provided on the underside with thirteen eyelets to which the beaded purse is attached. Between the halves a smooth inner handle with fifteen holes is attached. The pins of the hinges have rosette-shaped heads. Both handle halves have at the top a closed rod with a ball, together forming the clasp with which the handle closes. The upper rim is provided with two eyelets.
