About this work

Strip of bobbin lace, old Flemish lace, sewn around a rectangular piece of linen. The pattern consists of a tangle of oval knobs with mostly C-shaped appendages. There is hardly any ground, the motifs overlap or are connected by very short braids. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges. The straight top edge of the strip is sewn along one long and two short sides of the elongated rectangular piece of linen. The linen is finished with a hem on all sides. The bottom side of the lace strip is finished straight and provided with picots. It is possibly intended as a stole collar.
