Strip of bobbin lace with tilted ovals under a scattering pattern of twigs

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists along the lower edge of a series of pointed ovals and teardrop shapes, slightly tilted relative to each other. Under the oval runs a short string of circles, from which above the teardrop shape a leafy branch springs. Above this pattern stands a scattered pattern of two rows of loose branches. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The sparse solid work is made in linen stitch, which due to the thicker and shiny contour threads here and there almost disappears. Two different but strongly similar decorative grounds, with coarse meshes, are applied in the ovals and teardrop shapes. The straight lower side is finished with picots. The upper side is finished with a separately bobbin-laced band.
