Strip of bobbin lace with tilted ovals under a scattering pattern of twigs

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists along the bottom edge of a stringing of pointed ovals and drop shapes, which are always slightly tilted relative to each other. Under the oval runs a short swirly line of circles through, from which above the drop shape a leafy branch springs. Above this pattern stands a scattering pattern of two rows of loose branches. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The sparse solid work is made in linen stitch, which here and there almost disappears due to the thicker and shiny contour threads. Two different but strongly similar decorative grounds, with coarse meshes, are applied in the ovals and drop shapes. The straight underside is finished with picots. The upper side is finished with a separately bobbin-edged band.
