Steel linen with lace embroidery with drawn threads and four-pointed stars in a diagonal grid

Sample of natural-colored linen with lace embroidery: work with drawn threads. Study material. In a considerable part of the coarse linen a square grid has arisen by drawing out threads in horizontal and vertical direction. With an added thread a beginning has been made with bundling the remaining threads that form the grid and finishing the edges around the grid with buttonhole stitches. The bundling is executed in diagonal lines, the added thread forms in this way a diagonal grid. The bundled threads form four-pointed stars. Diagonally under the pattern you see how warp threads (vertical) and weft threads (horizontal) are partly cut and drawn out of the linen fabric. The linen is finished with hems along which a border of work with drawn threads is made. The sample is intended as an example of how this technique works. Belonging to the sample is a fragment made with fine linen that is well finished.
