Strip of mixed lace with lobed volutes and a palmette leaf

Strip of natural-coloured mixed lace - bobbin lace in combination with needle lace - Brussels duchesse. The pattern consists of lobed volutes and a palm leaf. The motifs are connected to each other by a braided bar ground, with on some braids one picot. The braided bar work is made in linen stitch and net stitch, largely provided with contour threads. The decorative ground is of needle lace and consists of a grid of diamonds, made with widely festooned thread bundles and with in the centre of each diamond and on all corners a circle of festooned threads, or a pearl. Along both the top and bottom side of the strip the pattern forms a shell edge, finished with picots.
