Slip of a Necktie of Mixed Lace in the Shape of a Coat of Arms

Collar of a necktie of natural-coloured mixed lace - bobbin lace combined with needle lace - Brussels duchesse lace. Shield-shaped model. Symmetrical pattern with in the centre an oval medallion containing a flower in needle lace with 'sun rays' around it. Around this central motif stands an oval frame of linked bobbin-rosettes with flower centres of needle lace. The medallion is connected with a relatively coarse plaited ground to a shield-shaped border of bobbin C-scrolls and curling ribbon work containing a needle lace ornamental ground (dots in the C-scrolls and rings in the remaining ribbon work). This border is in turn connected with a zigzag of plaits to various types of flowers, which also form the shell border. The flowers increase in size from top to bottom. These flowers are largely made in net stitch, with edges in linen stitch. All motifs are provided with thick contour threads.
