Insert of a Double Strip of Bobbin Lace with Hexagons

Insert of natural-colored bobbin lace, made of two strips sewn together lengthwise. The pattern is based on a sixteenth-century example and resembles reticella. It consists per strip of a row of hexagons made with a dense mesh ground which are connected to each other with braids from the corners. The pattern continues in the top and bottom border, but is interrupted halfway there by a straight finish with picots. The pattern on the center line, where the strips are sewn together, does not match exactly.
